Editores escoceses. Robert, que comenzó su carrera como vendedor callejero de libros y periódicos en Edimburgo, escribió obras históricas, literarias y geológicas. En 1832, ambos hermanos fundaron el Chambers's Edinburgh Journal, que más tarde llevaría a la creación de la casa editorial W. & R. Chambers, Ltd. Su Chambers's Encyclopaedia (1859–68) estaba modelada en una traducción del Konversations-Lexikon alemán. Esta enciclopedia, que se considera académicamente seria y confiable para temas históricos, ha sido editada varias veces.
